Mix It Up, Southwest Style!

Hello There!

Yep, it is Wednesday already!  That means another Mix It Up Challenge at SugarPea Designs!  I focused on the sketch this week~

As you may know, I just recently returned from the American Southwest.  One of the many things I really wanted to see were cacti- specifically Saguaro.  Well, I got what I wanted and them some.  One of the things that really amazed me, right there in the dry, hot desert, were the abundance of gorgeous flowers coloring the desert.  So, when I made this card as a thank you for an amazing friend who was our hostess for a couple of days, I wanted to capture the bright flowers of the area.  The question was HOW.
Then, I had one of those light bulb moments, LOL!  One of the dies in the Funky Wreath Spring SugarCuts Die Set was perfect as a flower petal.  I die cut the petal several times from plain 'ol computer paper and then died them pink with distress inks.  I crumpled them slightly to give them a more ruffled look.  Once dry, I assembled the flower, working around the yellow stamen, which was also made from the same single die.
I paired the flower with the cactus image from the Let's Fiesta Stamp Set.  The banners were cut using the Stitched Flags SugarCuts Dies and the background panel was dry embossed and then die cut with the Zig Zag Stitched Rectangles.  I framed the cactus image to look like a photo, using the polaroid SugarCuts Die from the Polaroid Journal Card SugarCuts Die Set.

Check out the rest of the team's fab inspiration!
