Grand Old Flag

Hello Again!
This is my last week as Our Daily Bread Design's Guest Designer.  I have had such a good time designing with their beautiful images and sentiments.  With the 4th of July right around the corner (can you believe it?) I have a primitive Americana card to share with you-

This image also seemed appropriate to use at it is the one that brought me to ODBD in the first place.
I stamped the image in Van Dyke brown distress ink and then masked and sponged on the color. The image was cut down from a rectangle to a square and Van Dyke brown ink sponged around the edge.   I got out the sewing machine and stitched around the edges of the image as well as along the flag stripes, then adhered it to an embossed  and sponged back panel.  The star is diecut, embossed and sponged with Van Dyke Brown ink as well.  It is popped up on dimensionals as is the sentiment panel.

I have done variations of this card before-

To change it up, I double stamped the image; first I used the faux watercolor technique, then I simply inked up the stamp and overstamped without spritzing the inked stamp with water.  I also stamped the grasses a second time, behind the lighthouse.  I used white acrylic paint for the sea spray and foam.  The lighthouse is actually curled to give it a 3D look.  The sea gulls are fussy cut out and adhered to the lighthouse.  I made a button out of the compass image on the lighthouse by stamping it 4 times, cutting them out with a circle die, adhering them together and then piercing 2 holes through the layers.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed week!

Heartfelt Creations Projects with a Touch of Fall

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to another Wednesday and more beautiful Heartfelt inspiration. Today we are doing a cross promotion with Scor Pal. Please visit the Heartfelt Creation blog and the Scor Pal blog. Prepare to be blown away with all the amazing projects featuring the Scor Pal and Heartfelt Creations products.
I have been wanting to try the Bendi card fold; the newest Heartfelt Creations release provided the perfect stamps for that.

I followed the tutorial on Splitcoaststampers found here. Instructions specific to this card can be found on the Heartfelt Creations blog.
I stamped the beautiful Fall Season stamp for my backdrop image and colored it with Copics.  I just love how the Ornate Gateway Die looks in this scene.

I could not resist to throw in some white and blue pumpkins.  I am always amazed when I see them for sale in the fall; I just love those unique hues.
I added a fence along the right flap of my garden-

...and decorated the front of my flaps/card with my favorite flower, the Vintage Floret.

My next project is a little something for the home.

This candle "ring", which is really a square, was made with Heartfelt Creation's Clear Cardstock and the new Ornate Gateway Die.  To make the square you will need to die cut 4 sets of the Ornate Gateway Die, the left and right gate.  You do not need the top swirl~

Here is a close up view of the candle square with a lit, battery operated votive candle-

Instructions for the entire project are listed below.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

Then glue the end of the other piece of cs into the remaining 1/2” wide section of cs. You should now have a clear box (sides only, no top or bottom). Going CAS with new Stampin' Up

Hello Everyone!

I am having fun playing with new Stampin' Up stamps.  I love the new Gorgeous Grunge set and thought it would be fun to use for a sketch from the CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge blog.  It also fits the challenge at Addicted to CAS-"Teenager"- after all, I have yet to meet a teenager who doesn't have a bit (or more) of grunge in their bedrooms!  And how about those grungy jeans?!

As you can see, I turned the sketch. I stamped my image multiple times using various colors to create a rainbow spectrum of colors.  I added button flowers to coordinate with the stamped colors.  Thin strips of black cardstock were threaded though the button holes.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

New Stampin' Up-Venetian Romance

I finally got some down time to play with new Stampin' Up toys last night.  I love some of the latest intricate and romantic sets, including Venetian Romance.  I played along in SCS's Inspiration Challenge and came up with this CAS card-

While very simple to make, I think this card still packs a punch!  I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for precise placement of my image each time I stamped it.  I scrunched the ribbon for a shabby look.  Pearls finish off the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed weekend!

More Designing with Our Daily Bread Designs

Good Morning!
Is it just me, or is the month of June just flying by??  It is already my 3rd week of guest designing for Our Daily Bread Designs.  I have 2 cards to share with you today.  Sad to say, but I never seem to have enough sympathy cards on hand. And that is the number one request I have when I am asked to make a card.
I wanted to keep the card simple and to the point, but still  pretty and soft.  I also wanted it to be mailable-no extra postage!
I stamped the Pussy Willow Background stamp in Versamark on Very Vanilla cs and clear embossed it.  I stamped the main pussy willow image on white cs and colored it with Prismacolor Pencils, then fussy cut it out.  I added a narrow panel across the card using Crumb Cake cs and a woodgrain ef as well as the fancy edge die from ODBD's Antique Labels and Border Dies.

For this card I used a sketch from Crazy 4 Challenges-

7/11/13-
Well. this is embarrassing!  I came to this post to check details of this card and realized I never finished the post!  I apologize for leaving this unfinished!
This christening card is heat embossed and dry embossed.  The background panel is stamped with the wonderful Gingham background image.  The 2 white panels are dry embossed with Stampin' Up embossing folders.  The oval panel is die cut with a Spellbinder oval die and sponged with Certainly Celery before being removed from the die.The cross is embossed in gold ep and die cut with the matching Antique Label and Border Die from ODBD.  The white border along the bottom is also made with the Antique Label and Border Die set.  The sentiment is stamped and fussy cut out and then popped up on dimensionals.  I scored around the outside edge of the card and added pearls to finish it off.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Heartfelt Christmas

Hello All!
It is time to share some more Heartfelt Creations inspiration and today I am thinking Christmas! I have two cards using the same image; one CAS and one not-so CAS!

Clearly this is the not so CAS card!  I wanted to create a pretty vintage scene and did so by framing the Prismacolored image with the Decorative Oval Die cut and roses.

Here, I wanted to make a pretty card and yet not feel I had to color the whole image, so I used the Spotlight Technique and just colored the lamp post, making that layer a banner.

I used Copics here, added a doily and some bling but kept it very clean and simple.

Walk with God

Hello Everyone!

I am back with another card for Our Daily Bread Designs.  You might need your sunglasses for this one as I went very bright on this card!

As I thought about this quote, I thought about light and dark; the idea of contrasting light and dark on the card started to form. I strayed a bit from the main idea when I added the pinkish color to the mix.  So I guess I really have bright and dark instead of light and dark!

I used the Spellbinder Resplendent Rectangles for this project, along with MFT Rolled Roses dies, Cheery Lynn Flourish, Spellbinder Foliage Shapeabilities and Venetian Motifs.    The roses are made with So Saffron cs and sponged with Regal Rose ink.  The main image panel uses  mixed media. Gesso is first applied using the technique demonstrated by Kim from Eclectic Paperie.  I then added Fired Brick and Wild Honey Distress paints, which were quickly dabbed on and then spritzed with generous amounts of water to make it blend and run.  I dried it with a heat gun.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and have a blessed week!

Guest Designing for Our Daily Bread Designs

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited to be guest designing for Our Daily Bread Designs this month!  ODBD has a special place in my heart as it was the first company outside of Stampin' Up that  I really took notice of.  I loved the elegant cards with inspirational sentiments and scripture verses that I saw on Splitcoaststampers!  I was making cards for Operation Write Home at the time and spotted this card by Angella Crockett in the gallery.  I knew I just had to have the Old Flag background stamp!
So here I am a couple of years later, and having the privilege to design for them!  Today I am sharing a desk plaque that I made for a friend of mine who could use some encouragement.

I wanted to try the stained glass look that Grace shared on her blog.  I stamped my cross image in Stazon Brown ink on Clear Cardstock.  I colored the image with Sharpie markers on the back side of the image.  Then I stamped the cross in Early Espresso on white cs. I layered the clear cs on top of the white cs and used dimensionals to adhere one to the other.

I then cut a frame ( 1/4" all around) from Early Espresso cs and ran it through a woodgrain embossing folder.  I adhered this over the clear cs image using dimensionals.  The entire image piece was then matted onto a piece of dsp, followed by Early Espresso cs, followed by Bahama Breeze cs.  At this point my mats were longer than my framed image; I cut an additional piece of Early Espresso cs, embossed it with the woodgrain ef, and adhered it just below the framed image.  You can see the slight gap in the photo.
I stamped a label in Stazon Brown on dp and then die cut it out with the matching die.  I added a sentiment from the "Never Give Up" set to the label. To embellish, I added flourishes, pearls and twine.
The whole thing is backed with a piece of cardboard for stability as this is a plaque that can be placed in a holder such as the one in the picture.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

For Mother and Minnie!

Hello Everyone!

Today I am sharing a Heartfelt Creations Design Team card with a humorous touch to it.  I discovered this fun hat template at Paperscrapz. This template has been done up in many different ways- formal with feathers, with flowers, etc, but I have not seen it done as a straw hat.  As I was thinking this, I thought of Minnie Pearl's hat from the old T.V. show, Hee Haw!  How fun would this be, I thought?!

I thought it would make a cute Mother's Day card.  Now I now Mother's Day is already long past, but my mother's birthday is right around Mother's Day and very often fall on the same day.  I remembered to send her her birthday card, but in trying to make the right card for that, I forgot about Mother's Day!  Needless to say, she pointed out that I was the "Card Lady" and she did not get a card from me!  This is the card she will get when she comes into town on June!

The brim of the hat is held closed with two small pieces of velcro.  Here is the inside~

For detailed instructions on how to make this project and for more inspiration from the amazing Design Team, please check out Heartfelt Creations' blog
