Freshly Made Sketches and a Guy Card

Hello All!

Welcome back to a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  This week our sketch if from the talented Jen B, who is as sweet as she is talented!

For some reason I struggled with this sketch.  I think it was just lack of MOJO.  But when I turned the sketch 180 degrees, I came up with a fun guy card.
Here is your sketch~

I replaced the banner for a bear.  I love this furry guy.  He is Big Bear from Impression Obsession.  He is colored with Copics and super easy to do no line coloring on.  I masked him and sponged a tree background for him, using WPlus9 Lake House Ink for the sponged sky.  The die cut sentiment is also from WPlus9.  I use this set often.  Instead of sequins, I added a few enamel dots to finish the card.

Another Guy Card

Hello Again!

Gosh, we are seeing the sunshine 3 days in a row here in St Louis, and it is making me wishing for spring.  I am ready!
Today's card is CAS but also mixed media.

Isn't it nice when the idea in your head actually comes out on the paper?  This actually turned out better than I imagined it.  I started with a monoprint that I had made months ago, but was hoarding.
I used my gel plate, brayer, acrylic paints, and a Tim Holtz stencil to make the panel.
I cut a piece from it, divided it in two and used these as my background panel.  They have been outlined with a Sakura Pigma Micron Pen to match the doodled frame of my image.
The main image is actually from two stamp sets- Autumn Splendor (leaf) and Just Be ( doodled frame) Stamp Sets. The leaf was stamped, masked, and then the frame was stamped.  The images were stamped in Versafine Black Onyx Ink and water colored with Ken Oliver Color Burst Powders.   To compliment the areas of white on my monoprint background, I spattered some white acrylic paint onto the framed leaf.  The image was fussy cut out and popped up on dimensional adhesive.
The sentiment, from the Lots-a-Spots Stamp Set was stamped in the Verafine Black as well.
Inspiration for this card came from a few challenges~

Masculine Candles

Good Morning Stampers!

Many of us find it hard to make those pesky masculine cards.  Black and kraft tend to be my go to colors for guy cards.

I used the Birthday Borders Stamp Set from snss for this card.  Using my MISTI, I did repeat stamping of the candles across the kraft cs. I used Versafine Black ink for a deep, crisp image.   The word birthday is die cut out and a scrap piece of alcohol ink paper was placed behind it.  The word 'wishes' was stamped on another piece of the alcohol ink paper and heat embossed in black.  Wishes, from the Sentimental Mash Up set, is popped up on dimensional tape.  A bit of natural twine finishes the card off.

I was inspired by a few challenges~

Freshly Made Sketches #423

Hello All!

We are back with a fabulous new Freshly Made Sketches sketch, this one from Kim.  I love Kim's clean style and she knows how to use die cuts like no other.

Here is your sketch; I stayed true to it for a change!

I used my new Paint a Poppy Stamp Set from Altenew.  What a beauty! I veered form the typical red/orange poppy color and decided on yellow.  I love the combo of yellow and gray and it has been too long since I used it.  In addition, yellow is a dominant color in this month's Altenew Inspiration Challenge.  The poppy image was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black Ink on watercolor paper and colored with Daniel Smith  Watercolors.  I added a branch of leaves from the same set to the gray sentiment panel to frame the sentiment.  In addition, I added a small bunch of flowers from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set. The sentiment is from the Extra Special Stamp Set.
I am also linking up to this month's The Flower Challenge~

Sweet n Sassy Flowers

Hello Everyone!

Happy Monday/Tuesday!

I have a post on the Sweet n Sassy Blog today where I am taking a look at mixed media in the card world.  I also challenged myself to use things that were already on my desk, discarded from previous attempted projects.  This is one of my projects.

I had a watercolored rose already to go.  The rose is from the Mason Jar Bouquet Stamp Set.  It is colored with Ken Oliver Color Bursts(surprised?  I bet not!). The floral branch background panel was also sitting on my desk.  It was colored with Prismacolor Pencils.  The only thing I did to it was color the leaves; only the blossoms had been colored originally. The branches are from the Birds and Blooms Stamp Set
I just received happy mail and wanted to try out my new Altenew Fine Frames Rectangle dies
The sentiment is from the Singing Praises Stamp Set
I used the sketch at Just Add Ink~

I am also linking up to Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge~  'Frame It'.
And, I am linking up to Addicted to Stamps and More- Make Your Mark.

I have two more Mixed Media projects on the Sweet n Sassy Blog; stop by to check them out!

In the Beginning

Hello, Hello!

I have started a Bible study online that began as an offshoot to a Creative Worship group I am in.  I was inspired to journal a page on creation.  The focus of one lesson were the 4 words, 'In the beginning, God...'

I started with watercoloring an earth in the middle of the page.  I did not try to be exact or anything, just added sea and land areas.
I then sectioned off the area around the earth into 8 sections.  Within each section, I depicted a day of creation.
For Day 1 I simply watercolored in a dark section and kept one 'light'.  I used Ken Oliver Color Bursts for all of my coloring.
Day 2~  I painted a dark blue area and a light blue area and added clouds to the sky.  The clouds are from a Sweet n Sassy Stamps Set, How Tweet.
Day 3~ I water colored in plants.
Day 4~  Again, using light and dark blues, I made a night sky with moon and stars and a day sky with sun.  Everything was watercolored.  The stars were done with a Sakura Gelly Roll Pen.
Day 5-~ Watercolored my sea and sky.  Painted in a shark, Nemo, and a jelly fish.  The birds were stamped with Versafine Onyx Black Ink and are from the Serene Silhouettes Stamp Set
Day 6~  I stamped purple mountains using the Landscape Silhouettes Stamp Set.  The figures are hand drawn (and gave me fits!).
Day 7~ The alpha is the Chunky Alpha Stamp Set and is stamped in Versafine Black ink.  Rested- the word rest is from the By the Sea Stamp Set.  I hand drew in the -ed.  I used the Sakura white gelly roll pen to highlight the letters.
The Title uses the following sets- 'in' is from His Wings,   'the' is from Living Water, 'Beginning' uses the School Days Alpha. 'God' is from a retired stamp set.
I also used a Sakura Pigma Micron Black pen for writing and all of my black lines.

I am grateful to know that the God who always was, is and always will be, the God who created the universe, cares about me enough to send a Savior for me.  His redemption plan is beautiful and was there 'In the Beginning'.

Have a blessed day, all!

In Memory

Hello,
Today I am joining several crafters for a blog hop to support a fellow crafter and former team mate (The Rainbow Card Challenge) who has lost her brother, Bill, to esophageal cancer.  The color of esophageal cancer awareness is periwinkle, so we based our hop on that color.  Thanks to Mynn Kitchen for putting this hop together.

Periwinkle has always been one of my favorite colors, but when it came to picking a color to put down on paper, it was harder than I realized.
I started with hand cutting a shoreline mask.  From there I sponged in some sky and then stamped he distant tree line and did mirror image stamping for the reflection on the frozen pond.  I stamped the tree in the foreground in a darker grey and then added detail to the ground around it with Copics.  I also added detail to the shoreline with Copics and added a touch of periwinkle on the icy pond for the shoreline shadows.
I did go at this project with some inspiration.  I used the photo below (from Pinterest) as my jumping off point.

Product details are below.

Birthday Balloons

Hello All!  Happy Weekend!

Today I am playing along in a couple of challenges.  The first is Time Out Challenges~

Their challenge is an inspired by words challenge~

I focused on the words birthday and confetti.  The water color paper panel was first given a light wash of yellow water color paint, being sure to get some drips.  I used the new Birthday Borders Stamp Set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps.  I did some masking to get the large bunch of balloons at the top of the card.  The images are stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink  and then colored with my Arteza Real Brush Pens.  I splattered with Ken Oliver Color Bursts and added strings.
The sentiment is from the Sentimental Mash Up Stamp Set
I am also linking up to the Addicted to Stamps and More Anything Goes challenge and
Seize the Birthday~

That's it for me, thanks for stopping by and have a blessed weekend!

Freshly Made Sketches Gets Bright!

Hello and Welcome Back to another Wednesday and a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!
If you are looking for the Sweet n Sassy Stamps blog hop, go HERE.

This week or sketch artist is the amazing Linda!  I love Linda's cards; every one of them look like they were effortless for her to make.  She has a great sketch for us.  Don't faint- I did NOT color on this card!

Here is your sketch; I stayed pretty true to it~

I really needed to do something besides color, lol, so I made a watercolored background panel using my well loved Ken Oliver Color Bursts Powdered watercolors (enabler alert- Dick Blick has them at a price right now that can't be beat!) and stamped this silhouette floral image from the Long Stem Silhouettes Stamp Set.  I used my MISTI to stamp the floral image so I could repeat stamp it as many times as necessary on the rough watercolor paper.  I did a tone on tone look for the bright yellow card base, using a stencil from Stamplorations.  I found a nice bold stripe paper to compliment the bright yellow card base.  The sentiment is from the Scripty Thoughts Stamp Set.  Once again, my MISTI helped me out in getting perfect placement of the sentiment.  I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black ink for a rich, dark black impression.
I am linking up to Stamplorations Anything Goes Challenge, as well as the challenge at Just us Girls, which is to use stripes.

That's it for me.  Hop over to the Blog and check out the rest of the team's amazing imspiration, then link up your project!

As a colorist, I love a great lined image.  Look no further that the absolutely adorable Springtime Stamp Set by the talented Jenn Nilsson.

Yes, this is a bit busier than my usual card, but I really love the black outline images as patterned paper. I stamped the bouquet in Versafine Onyx Black ink for a crisp dark image.  The boot image was colored with Copics and fussy cut out.  Ignore the tiny dot of teal paint (I was splattering another card and the boots were in the way).  I knew I was going to make a tag as I was using the sketch from Sunday Stamps.  I rummaged around in a discard box and found this stenciled piece of paper that was perfect as a background for the image. I colored some grass and added some sequins and a twine bow.  I am also linking up to Global Design Project for the Let It Grow Challenge~

For the second card, I colored the butterflies from the same Springtime Stamp Set in a rainbow of colors with Copics and fussy cut them out.

The background panel was stenciled in ombre fashion and the butterflies were glued to the card in a circular formation.  The sentiment was stamped with my MISTI.   A tiny clear sequin adorns each butterfly.

Lastly, I used another of the images, the umbrella, for a twins baby card~

I love how this turned out; has a bit of a 50s vintage vibe to it, imo.  The umbrellas were colored with Copics and fussy cut out.  I added some background patterned paper and a doily to ground the umbrellas and sentiment panel.  The sentiment comes from two different sets; the 'welcome' is from the Love Birds Stamp Set and the 'twins' is done with the School Days Alpha Stamp Set

Enjoy the Hop!

More Puppy Love

I liked the last 'Baxter' card so much that I had to make another.
This time I used the colors from The Color Throwdown and the sketch from MFT

I had a watercolored, die cut heart (Spellbinders retired) on my desk that I discarded from another project and realized it was the perfect blues for this color challenge.  I added some striped pink paper- Just Us Girls Challenge is to use stripes- and added Baxter, from Impression Obsession atop the heart.

I again used the Like Crazy sentiment for Baxter to hold.
I am also entering the Mod Squad Challenge- You're All Heart.

Puppy Love

Hello and Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Today I have what may be my most favorite Valentine for the year.  I am using this adorable pooch from Impression Obsession. This pup is Baxter and he just had to jump in my cart!  He was perfect for their challenge this week.  I paired him, along with this fun sentiment, Like Crazy, to create this card for their Hugs and Kisses Challenge.

Of course, I needed to get the hugs and kisses in there, so I used the XO Square stamp to make my xoxo patterned paper.
I used the sketch from CASE This Sketch~

For the linear panel along the right side, I used a scrap piece of a monoprint that I had made with my Gel Press Plate that I could not bear to throw out.  Pup is colored with Copics and fussy cut out.

I am also linking up to Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, 'With Love',
As well as The Male Room~

And lastly, Krafty Chicks Challenge- 'Stamp Act'

Thanks for popping by!

Freshly Made Sketches Gets Springy

Hello All!

It is time for another sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  This sketch, from Jen M., is the
ultimate CAS sketch~

I was somewhat loose with my interpretation~

And how about that chick???  So stinkin' adorable.  The chick is brand new, part of the Springtime Stamp Set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps.  I colored him/her with Copics and fussy cut out.

I played around with lots of different ideas but ultimately I came back to a very CAS, very white card.
My panel that the chick is mounted on was one of those things in the 'discard, maybe I will use it later' pile. It is just embossed with white embossing paste.  The bunch of flowers is another image in the set.  It is actually a bow-tied bouquet, but I snipped that part off so it could look like it is springing up out of the ground.
The sentiment is from this versatile new set called Sentimental Mash Up.  Even the name is fun!  This stamp set is the February Stamp of the Month at Sweet n Sassy Stamps-free with a $75 order.

The cupcakes are from the latest release from Sweet n Sassy Stamps- Birthday Borders.  I found them to be perfect for Valentine's Day as well.  The sentiment is from the Lots of Love Stamp Set.  The cupcakes are colored with Copics and fussy cut out, then popped up on dimensional tape.

A Valentine and a Few Challenges

Hello All!

After being in a crafty rut for a bit, the MOJO returned some today.  While going through challenges, I happened upon The Color Throwdown color combo for the week.  The combo is a great one, but I was also inspired by the photo itself.

I die cut a heart from red cardstock and outlined it onto my grey cardstock.  After treating my cardstock with an anti-static tool, I stamped the berry image from Sweet n Sassy Stamps Fur-Ever Friends Stamp Set and heat embossed the images in white embossing powder.
You can see where my inspiration came from.

I then die cut the intricate portion of the Spellbinders Vines of Passion Die-D-Lites (discontinued) from the same red cardstock and glued in onto the solid heart.  I then adhered the heart into the center of the embossed berries.
The sentiment is from the Love You Lots Stamp Set and is heat embossed in white on vellum.  I used my MISTI to line up the two sentiments for perfect placement.  I glued a thin strip of light grey cardstock underneath the sentiment strip and glued the whole thing to the heart.
I added a little bit of bling from Studio Katia to a few of the berries.  I used Snow Crystals and
Sparkling Crystals. I adhered them with Ranger Multi Medium Matte;this seems to work the best for me in keeping gems and sequins on the paper.

I user the great sketch from Fusion Card Challenge
I am also linking up to Time Out Challenges; this week's challenge is 'Affectionate'.
as well as Krafty Chicks Challenge where this week it is 'Anything Goes'.
Lastly, I am linking up to Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge; this week the challenge is 'All Loved Up'.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous rest of your weekend!
