Thinking Fall

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

These first two weeks of school have just about done me in, but I must admit, since we are back in school and headed into September, I am looking forward to all things fall.
We have a gorgeous botanical garden here in St. Louis and fall is one of my favorite times to visit.  The cone flowers are one of my faves as they seem to be one of the last flowers to bloom into late fall.  This Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps image reminds me of the Missouri Botanical Gardens and their cone flowers~

I found a tutorial by Jennifer McGuire for faux water color and decided to give it a try.
I started by heat embossing this image from Flower Blocks 3 with white embossing powder on mixed media paper.  I made 3 separate images. On one image I used a Tumbled Glass Distress Ink Pad and sponged some ink onto the sky.  Then I spritzed it with water so the color would move around.
Next, I rubbed a Scattered Straw Distress Ink Pad directly onto a second image, followed by a bit of Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.  Again, this was spritzed generously with water followed by pearlized spray to give it a wonderful pearl sheen.
The third image was colored the same way the second one was.  All were allowed to dry.  Once dry, One of the yellow/orange flowers was fussy cut out.  This image was then adhered to  the sky panel colored in blue.  The second orange/yellow image was fussy cut out, not including the cone of the flower.  Some petals were eliminated as well.  Once layered on top of the main panel with dimensionals, you get great depth with the two fussy cut layers of petals.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful and blessed Labor Day Weekend!

Top Dog Dies and Zentangle

Hello Everyone!

Have you noticed the growing trend of Zentangle?  I have been wanting to give it a try for months now and finally did using the negative space of one of my new Top Dog Dies from the Dog Days #2 set.

I just fell in love with this sweet Scottie dog and thought he would be perfect for this sentiment.  I used the negative die to trace the image on a piece of white cs.  I hand drew a collar; I then divided the dog up into sections to do my doodling or "zentangle". Once I was done filling in all of the space, I die cut the image out.
The Vintage A2 Mat die was the perfect die cut to mount the Scottie on.  I used a fun sentiment from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Valentine Critters Stamp Set and heat embossed it on vellum.
For a complete tutorial with photos, check out the Top Dog Dies Blog.
I used the versatile sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch-

I am also linking up to Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, which is 'Anything Goes' this week.

Add A Little Dazzle Gets Bright!

Hi Friends!
Welcome back to a new challenge at Add A Little Dazzle!  This week we have a color challenge for you and we are going bright

This week's challenge is to use Pucker Me Pink and Orange.  I do not typically use really bright colors so this was truly a challenge for me!
I used a great Viva La Verve sketch~

I made much of this card while stamping at a friend's house, so I am not sure of the paper used.  The images and sentiment are from Verve's Blue Skies Stamp Set and the fabulous Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal flourishes are made with Verve's Leafy Sprigs Dies.  These are some of my all time favorite dies and I love them cut in Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal
I hope you can join as this week; you can link up your card on the Add A Little Dazzle Blog.  You do not have to use Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets, but if you have them we would love to see them!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!  :)

Bless the Teachers

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

Everyone should just about be settled into a new school year by now and my project today is a small thank you to the teachers who work so hard day in and day out with our children.

I started with a 3 x 3 cardbase made from Esse Pearlized Cardstock from CutCardStock. I added a layer of retired dsp from SU.  I am smitten with this apple design that I saw a couple of weeks ago while hopping along with a CASE Study Blog Hop.  I die cut a circle from the Pop Tones Red Hot cardstock and then diecut a small heart in it using a die from my Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Pick Me Up Die Set. I backed the heart with vellum.
The leaves were made with the MFT Layered Leaves Die-Namics.  The solid leaf is die cut from the Pop Tones Gum Drop Green Cardstock and the skeletal leaf is cut from Curious Metallic Botanic Cardstock; the metallic shimmer of Curious Metallic cs compliments the pearlized shimmer of the Esse cardstock perfectly.
Talk about easy peasy!  I really, really dislike reproducing cards but these are so simple; it is fairly painless.  :)  I would like to make sets of these to give to some teachers.  CutCardStock even has the 3 1/8 square envelopes to match!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

Dog Days with Top Dog Dies!

Hi Everyone!

I just love the frou frou Paris/pink and black look and when I saw this brand new Top Dog Dies Die, I knew I had to capture that look!

The poodle is from the brand new, Dog Days #2 Die Set from Top Dog Dies.  It is soooo darling!  The set also includes a Scottish Terrier die-- so sweet!
I die cut the poodle and backed her with a circle.  The bitty bow is also included in the set.  The background of the card is made with two stamps- an old Tim Holtz background stamp, which I stamped in Blushing Bride, and an image of the Eiffel Tower from the Crafty Secrets set, French Mail.
I used some grey striped dp on the card base and then added the brand new Modern Mosaic A2 Mat Die from Top Dog Dies. A ribbon is added and I embellished it with another die cut from the Dog Days #2 Die Set -the heart tag.  I die cut this from Blushing Bride cs and then covered it with Crystal Effects.  Once dry, I added a bit of silver cording.
So what do you think?  Did I capture that 'Paris' look?

I am linking this card up o the Monday Simon Says Stamp Challenge Blog which is "Anything Goes" this week.

Thanks for the Inspiration!

Hello Everyone!

This card is dedicated to a friend who has been a great inspiration to me~Lesley Croghan.

It is time for a new sketch at Seize the Sketch, and sadly our last sketch~

Cathy's sketch is really out of the box and made me think!

I was inspired by the gorgeous color palette at Color Throwdown this week~

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge has an "Anything Goes" Challenge this week and I am linking up there as well.
I finally broke out one of my 3 jars of embossing paste for this challenge.  I purchased a new Prima stencil and decided to try it, taking advantage of the two squares in the sketch- I immediately saw black/white/mirror image.  I stenciled the image in white on Basic Gray, then added a couple of drops of Basic Gray reinker to some white embossing paste and embossed on white cs, flipping the stencil for a mirror image.  I used some of my hoarded stash of Nature Gmund Savanna cardstock with the gorgeous wood grain embossing.
I added butterflies made with the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Majestic Monarchs and matching dies.
The sentiment is from Altenew's Label Love set and is embossed in gold on vellum.

You can check out all of the Design Team's amazing inspiration on the Seize the Sketch Blog.

Here Comes a New Release from Top Dog Dies!

Hi Everyone!
More new dies from Top Dog Dies are coming our way; I and the rest of the Top Dog Dies Design Team have sneak peeks for you all this week!  Keep reading for a chance to win, too!
Today I am sharing this uber awesome die for fall, for the farm life or for rural living-the Top Dog Dies Windmill Die.
Having traveled across the country twice this summer, I spent plenty of hours driving through the heartland of America and saw plenty of fields of crops and windmills. This card is a nod to America's Heartland~

I went looking for a little inspiration for this die.  I found this amazing image when I did a google image search for 'windmill'~

All I did for my background was sponging with a bit of masking to create the wisps of clouds and the sun.  I used adhesive paper and punched a circle for the sun and tore strips of the same paper for the clouds.  As I sponged, I removed and moved around the cloud masks to vary the intensity of the colors.  The Top Dog Dies Windmill Die was die cut in both Early Espresso cs and a piece of  Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheet
You may be wondering what other new Top Dog Dies are being released~

Fun, right!?  My guess is you are seeing some 'gotta haves' right now (bet you couldn't guess that my personal fave is the windmill!)!  Well, you are in luck!  These Top Dog Dies are being released tomorrow!  Want a chance at free dies?  You can enter for your chance to win the entire new release HERE!

The challenge on the Stamplorations Blog this week is 'Stamps and Dies'.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Good luck in the contest!

Hi Everyone!

If you have not, you can find out all about it here!

It is time for another challenge at Add A Little Dazzle,
and today we have a little inspiration for you!

Here is my take on the inspiration photo~

And here is the Inspiration Photo~

If you know me at all, you know I love nature, so this inspiration photo was right up my alley!

I used my Altenew Hennah Elements set to stamp a singular image multiple times in a circle.  I then fussy cut the circle of images out and matted it on a Brushed Bronze Craft Metal Sheet.  To that I added a flower and leaf colored with Copics.  The center panel was stamped using the border stamp, along with a sentiment from the Label Love set.  Designer paper and Liquid Pearls to the flower center finish off the card!
You can see two more cards made with Altenew's Hennah Elements Stamp set and Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal here.

Hi Everyone!

Here is a peek at a Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps new release, coming this Friday!

We have new dies to go with old stamps!  These dies include ones for the gorgeous Beauty By the Sea Stamp Set
I colored and die cut my shells, then made my beach using white embossing paste with a bit if Crumb Cake reinker mixed in.  Once I had the paste how I wanted it on the cs, I spritzed it with some Tattered Angels gold mist and brown mist.  The sentiment comes from the Across the Miles Stamp Set
My inspiration and sketch inspiration came from Inspired By Stamping-

Add A Little Dazzle/Altenew Blog Hop

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to another fantastic and fun day- It is time for the Add A Little Dazzle and Altenew Blog Hop!  That's right!  I did say Altenew!

We are so exited to be joining forces with this amazing company that has a beautiful line of stamps!  Join us today as both companies share some amazing inspiration using their stamps and Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets!

I just had to have the amazing set, Hennah Elements!  I stamped the flower on Perfect Peacock Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheet using Stazon Ink.  I also stamped the smaller flower, which mimics the center of the large flower.  I fussy cut both out of the craft metal sheet and then molded them both for dimension.  The small flower is adhered to the large flower with a dimensional.
Next, I stamped the diagonal stripes on the Crumb Cake panel.  Then I die cut the circle out of the panel and backed it with the oh-so-popular-vellum.  I stamped the striped image on vellum and heat embossed it in white, then fussy cut it out and adhered it along the edge of the Crumb Cake panel.  I popped this Crumb Cake panel up on dimensionals and adhered it to the back panel, which is dp from Carta Bella's Wildflower collection.
I stamped the amazing leaf image two times on a Brushed Bronze craft metal sheet and fussy cut it out.  Molding the leaves really made their gorgeous design stand out.  Love these leaves!
Lastly, I went with the trendy vellum again for the sentiment, which I heat embossed in white.

Next up - a CAS card!

Oh my goodness; when I saw this image, I new it was meant for creating designs!  Actually, all of the images are wonderful for pattern and design play!  I lightly traced a circle onto my cs, using a circle die.  Then I stamped the image multiple times, using the penciled in circle as a guide. I added a second, smaller image then  added Gold Glimmer craft metal sheet berries to the wreath as well as a linen thread bow.
The scrap of dp sitting on my desk made a perfect banner.  Vellum was my paper of choice again to stamp my sentiment from the Label Love set.  How fun is this!

The challenge at Addicted to CAS this week is "gold".  This seems to fit the bill perfectly!

I hope I have inspired you!  Do you have a favorite card?  Let me know your fave in the comments!

The New Top Dog Dies Flower Lace A2 Mat Gets a Makeover!

Hi Everyone!

I am back with a project using one of, if not my most favorite new die of late, the Flower Lace A2 Mat Die from Top Dog Dies.

Yes, this is a mat die, although it may not look like it!   I die cut circles from the top white mat of my card and then placed the black Flower Lace A2 Mat Die behind the circles.  Because of the way the top two circles overlap, I had to die cut the die cut into a circle.  Hope that makes sense!  Each of the circles was backed with color- Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake and Pool Party.  Again, because of the overlapping circles, the Pool Party piece had to be cut into a circle.
The Crumb Cake circle is recessed behind the white panel, using dimensionals.  I added 'strings' to hang my lanterns or paper shades.
Since the colors lend themselves to a tranquil feeling, I thought this would make a good sympathy card.  I stamped my sentiment on vellum and embossed it with white ep and then die cut it out with a Banners #1 Die from Top Dog Dies.

Thanks so much for stopping by;  have a blessed week!

Getting Silly with Seize the Sketch!

Hi Everyone!

It is time for a new sketch at Seize the Sketch.  This week, Katie has a sketch for us that is wide open to interpretation.

I just had to have this new Art Impressions Stamp Set-  What a hoot!  I colored it with my mom and dad in mind.  :)
As you can see I turned the sketch 180 degrees and used clouds for the star embellie.
The image was colored with Copics, fussy cut out, and popped up on dimensionals for depth.  I found this great piece of dp that looked like sky, and for the life of me I cannot remember the company.  The cloud dies used are from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps- Happy Happy Dies and Cloud  and Raindrops Die Set.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Check out all of the fabulous inspiration by the rest of the Design Team on the Seize the Sketch blog.  If you are hopping along to all of the Design Team members' blogs, Lesley is next up!

Have a blessed week!

Hello Everyone!

It’s time for Day 1 of the  Add a Little Dazzle and Lawn Fawn Blog Hop!  Both design teams have joined forces to bring you a week of stamp and Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheet inspiration.  Get ready for an amazing week of projects!

I just fell in love with this adorable Lawn Fawn Stamp Set, Hello Baby;  I love critters and these critters are just super sweet!  I started with my Speech Bubble Border Lawn Cut, die cutting some pink dp, follow by die cutting a negative space in the speech bubble layer, using my Hello Lawn Cut.
This speech bubble piece was adhered to a large white tag.  Next, I cut the Hello out in Princess Pink Craft Metal Sheet (How fitting is that for a sweet baby girl!?)  and inlaid it into the Hello negative space.  I stamped the darling duckie and colored her with Copics. I added a field of flowers around the duck and finished off the sentiment with 'sweet girl'.
Using a Stampin' Up paper Doily, I cut the solid center circle out of it and then gathered the lacey portion of the doily and adhered it to the back of the tag, along the left side.
My white and light yellow layers are dry embossed for texture and the tag was adhered to these layers.
To embellish, I added a linen thread bow and a button, topped off with a Princess Pink aald Craft Metal heart that I die cut using my Hello Baby Lawn Cuts.

Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets are available here~

I got a little color inspiration from Colour Me...!

Window on Fall

Hello Everyone!

Today's card is my sample for the Dare To Get Dirty Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers.  Kittie has a great challenge up- to make a window card.  I have used a variety of Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps products for this card~

I started by creating faux barn wood for this fall scene.  Fall, you say??  Isn't it a little early??  Well, I just got back from Colorado, and it was SNOWING up on a mountain we drove to the top of.  So cooler temps are on my mind!  LOL!
To make the faux barn wood, I used the direct to paper technique-
1. Drag Real Red and Bravo Burgundy Craft Ink onto Smokey Slate cs.  Once these inks are dry, drag white craft ink over the top.
2.  Cut the cardstock in 5/8 " wide strips.
3.  Ink the long edges of the strips with Early Espresso ink.
4.  Cut Cherry Cobbler cs mat approximately 5 1/4" x 4" in size.  Lightly drag the Early Espresso ink pad over the cs, avoiding the edges.
5.  Adhere the faux barn wood strips to the Cherry Cobbler cs, leaving a tiny space in between each board.
I stamped my branches from the Love Birds Stamp Set and colored with Copics then fussy cut out the image, cutting some of the leaves off the branches so they could litter my window sill.
The window is die cut from Smokey Slate cs and backed with Crumb Cake cs which has a my LOL Cats image stamped and colored on it.
The Tall Grass Die was perfect for adding some ornamental grass outside my window.  The sentiment, which is from the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Happy Home Stamp Set, adds a homey warm to the card.

I am all ready for sweaters now!

And here is a mountain top snow picture!

 Mt Evans, Colorado
